1. Confirm UST compatibility
Ultra-short-throw projectors need screen material designed for light arriving steeply from below. Do not assume every gray ALR screen works with UST.
2. Decide whether ambient light is the main problem
If you watch in a controlled dark room, you have more flexibility. If ceiling and side light are common, prioritize a UST ALR/CLR screen whose optical design matches that light direction.
3. Balance gain against viewing angle
Higher gain can support brightness but may narrow the useful viewing cone. Wide family seating often pushes the decision toward lower-gain lenticular surfaces. Centered seating in a bright room may make a higher-gain Fresnel surface attractive.
4. Choose the screen mechanism
Fixed frame is mechanically simple and always ready. Floor-rising and drop-down screens let the room transform but add motors, power and moving parts.
5. Measure the full room
Check screen width, frame width, projector cabinet depth, image height, front-speaker placement, seating distance and delivery route. A 120-inch 16:9 image is about 104.6 inches wide before the frame.
6. Compare claims carefully
NothingProjector Classic currently lists 0.6 gain, 160° viewing and 85% ALR. AWOL Cinematic lists 0.6, 170° and 95% ceiling/side light rejection. Elite Aeon CLR 3 lists 0.8, 170° and 90% overhead-light absorption. Those figures help frame the options, but cross-brand test methods may differ.
7. Use live price only after the room fit is clear
Regional storefronts and promotions move. Avoid picking a screen because an old article captured a temporarily lower price. First make sure the optical and physical format fits the room; then check the live offer.
