120-Inch Projector Screen Size Guide for UST Setups

Measure the room around the 120-inch image before buying the screen.

A 120-inch diagonal sounds simple until you put the rectangle on a real wall. For a 16:9 image, the viewable area is roughly 104.6 inches wide by 58.8 inches high. Your actual framed product will be slightly larger, so measure the full frame—not just the image diagonal.

Wall-width check

Start with at least 105 inches of clear image width plus frame margin and installation tolerance. Then check doors, speakers, switches, thermostats and shelving. A centered 120-inch screen can dominate a typical living-room wall, so furniture placement should be planned at the same time.

Seating-distance check

There is no universal “correct” viewing distance. Closer seating increases immersion; farther seating makes the image feel more conventional. A practical method is to tape the image outline on the wall and sit in your real seats before ordering. Pay attention to whether subtitles and fast camera movement feel comfortable from every seat.

UST throw-distance check

Unlike a ceiling-mounted long-throw projector, a UST projector’s cabinet still needs real floor depth. The lens may be close to the wall while the projector body extends forward. Screen height, media cabinet depth and projector model all combine to determine whether the image lands at a comfortable eye level.
